Getting ready

Aug 3, 2021

On 15th July, The Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs & Tourism (DEDEAT), dismissed the Appeal from Boesmans-Kariega Care Management Forum, (Estuary Care). The Ndlambe Municipality will now progress the approved Environmental and Maintenance Management Plan, which will provide a permanent solution to the problems caused by the growing and unsightly sand dune. It will also be designed to achieve the most effective and economical maintenance in the future regarding the ongoing accumulation of sand.

As you are aware, the very real threat from the Dune is the damage to homes, roads and to destroy a beautiful valley. The Consultants PRDW and CES have designed a permanent solution for all these issues.

A new drone Aerial survey of the entire relevant area has been completed as it is now 17 months since the previous survey was undertaken, due to various delays in commencing the Project. The Consultants will now discuss the revised and updated Plans with Estuary Care and finalise these with the Municipality. The Municipality will then submit these in accordance with the relevant procedures for the final approval of DEDEAT. It is important that there are no further delays if this Project is to be completed before the Xmas holiday season.

A weekly update will be posted on the progress of the rehabilitation of the Sand Dune and its’ environs, so the beauty of our magnificent part of the coast can once more be enjoyed by everyone.
